Abrams Call

As it is said in the Bible Terah(delay) was the name of Abram's father. He also had two brothers whose names were Nahor and Haran. They lived in the city named Ur of the Chaldeans. Back in the days the city used to be a commercial centre. The Ur of the Chaldeans could possibly be in Northern Mesopotamia. But more likely the site was on the Euphrates in southern Iraq. Abrams family consisted of idol worshippers. As they worshipped moon god. The moon god was also worshipped in Ur.

Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot (son of Haran) and his daughter in law Sarai and left Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. But they stopped at the city of Haran(dry) instead.Terah died there . Then the Lord God said to Abram " leave your country, your people and your father's household behind you. Go to the land I will guide you to. If you do, I will cause you to become the father of a great nation. I will bless  you and make your name famous. You will be a blessing to many others. I will bless those who bless you. I will curse those who will curse you. The entire world will be blessed because of you."

God expects us to obey Him and when we do He showers us with His blessings. So in this case did Abram obey God ? Yes, he did obey God's command. He was 75 years old when he took his wife, nephew and gathered all his wealth and he set out for Cannan. But did he obeyed the command completely ? No, he didn't .As he also took his nephew Lot with him and also his wealth.
After a while they arrived to their destination. They traveled through the land and reached at the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. The Cannanites used to live there at that time. Shechem is the centeral region in Israel. It stands for strength or shoulder. Moreh means wisdom. So Abram went with delay into the dry(Haran) land. Then he arrived at the promise land at the city called strength and a place called wisdom.

Then the Lord  God appeared to Abram in a vision and told him " I am going to give this land to your descendants." So he built an altar to the Lord God. Soon after he went to the hills between Bethal and Ai. Then he built an altar and prayed to God. This he kept going slowly to the south to the Negeb, pausing frequently.

Application

- As we can see Abram was 75 years old. He was childless. Still he believed in God.
Sometimes it's hard to trust God, especially when the situation is against us. But God wants us completely surrender. Only then we can see His blessings.
- God knows the best for us . But He can't give us His best unless we obey Him.
- First comes obidence then comes blessings.
- If we are filled with God's promise our life is entirely governed by God's promise.
