Tower Of Babel

Now the whole world had one language. and a common speech. As the men moved towards the  east. They found the plain Shinar and they settled there.

The people who lived there began to talk about a great city. They said to each other " Come, let's make bricks and bake them thoroughly ". They used brick instead of stone, and tar instead of mortar. They said " Come let us build ourselves a city with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the Earth."

The God came down to the city and saw the tower and the city men were building. So He said " Look at what they can do because they all speak the same language. Just think of what they will do later ! Nothing will be impossible for them! Come, let us go down and give them different languages. Then they won't understand each other!"

So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and that ended the building of the city. That is why it is called Babel(confusion). It was there the Lord God confused them by giving them many languages. So He widely scattered them across the face of the earth.

Application
- In Genesis 9:1 it says "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth" . As we can see that the command of God is been ignored.
- The verse 11:4 says "Come let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we make name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the earth."
1) They aim to build the city.
2) They aim build a tower which reaches the sky.
3) They want to make name for themselves.
4) They aim not to disperse in the whole world.
-  The first two cases corresponds to the second two as they are building the city in order to avoid being dispersed.
- They are trying to make name for themselves as they are trying to make a tower that reaches the sky.
- As we can see that they were craving praises. which boasts their Pride.
- We can also see that they were intelligent as they were making bricks. But they used their intellngence in the wrong way. As we should use our intelligence for the Glory of God not for our own Glory.
